Slides to Animation

Transform PPTX slides into MNG animated images with PNG-quality frames — each slide becomes a frame in a lossless multi-image sequence.

Full-Color Frames

Unlike GIF, MNG preserves full 24-bit color and alpha transparency from your PPTX visuals. No palette reduction or dithering artifacts.

Cross-Platform Access

Create MNG files from any device via Convertio. View the results on desktops and specialized viewers — no PowerPoint installation required.

About formats

PPTX is the default file format for Microsoft PowerPoint presentations since Office 2007, based on the Office Open XML (OOXML) standard published as ECMA-376 and later adopted as ISO/IEC 29500. A PPTX file is a ZIP archive containing XML documents that describe slide content, layouts, themes, relationships, and metadata in a structured, human-inspectable hierarchy. Each slide, slide layout, and slide master is stored as a separate XML part, with media assets (images, audio, video) and embedded objects kept in dedicated directories within the package. The XML foundation enables programmatic creation and manipulation of presentations using standard XML tools and libraries — developers can generate, modify, or extract content from PPTX files without requiring PowerPoint itself. One significant advantage is openness and interoperability: the fully documented OOXML specification allows any software to read and write PPTX files, and the format is supported by LibreOffice Impress, Google Slides, Apple Keynote, and numerous other tools. Built-in ZIP compression is another practical strength — PPTX files are typically 50-75% smaller than equivalent PPT files, reducing storage and transfer costs. The format supports all modern PowerPoint features including SmartArt, 3D models, morph transitions, embedded fonts, accessibility metadata, and co-authoring capabilities. PPTX has become the standard interchange format for presentation content worldwide.

MNG (Multiple-image Network Graphics) is an animation and multiple-image format designed as the animated counterpart to PNG, with its specification reaching version 1.0 on January 31, 2001. Developed by Glenn Randers-Pehrson and members of the PNG development community, MNG extends PNG's capabilities with support for frame-based animation sequences, slide shows, complex sprite overlays, and JNG (JPEG Network Graphics) frames for lossy compression of photographic content within the same container. An MNG file consists of a series of chunks (following PNG's chunk-based architecture): MHDR and MEND chunks bookend the datastream, with embedded PNG or JNG images as individual frames and control chunks (DEFI, FRAM, LOOP, ENDL, TERM, BACK, BASI, CLON, PAST, DISC, SHOW) directing playback timing, looping behavior, layer compositing, and memory management. The format supports both full-frame replacement and delta (difference) updates for efficient encoding of animations with static backgrounds, as well as object-based animation where sprites are defined once and repositioned across frames. One advantage is technical sophistication: MNG provides a level of animation control that GIF and APNG cannot match — frame-accurate timing, nested loops, conditional branches, interframe compression, and mixed lossy/lossless content within a single animation. The PNG-based foundation ensures lossless quality with full alpha transparency for each frame. MNG is supported by ImageMagick, GIMP, and various media players, though browser support was limited, which led to APNG's emergence as a simpler alternative for web animation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why convert PPTX to MNG?

MNG turns your slide deck into an animated image — each slide becomes a frame, creating a self-playing visual sequence without needing presentation software.

How do I open MNG files?

Firefox historically supported MNG natively. XnView, IrfanView with plugins, and ImageMagick can display and manipulate MNG animated images.

How does MNG compare to GIF?

MNG supports full-color PNG-quality frames with alpha transparency. GIF is limited to 256 colors per frame — MNG preserves far more visual detail.

Does MNG support transparency?

Yes — MNG inherits PNG alpha channel support, allowing smooth transparency in each frame. This makes it suitable for overlaying animations on varied backgrounds.

Is PPTX to MNG conversion free?

Convertio provides this conversion for free. Premium subscriptions offer batch uploads, priority processing, and expanded file size support.

Is MNG widely supported today?

MNG has limited browser support compared to APNG or WebP animations. It remains useful in specialized imaging tools and legacy software ecosystems.
