Frequently Asked Questions
XVID is an older MPEG-4 Part 2 codec. Modern alternatives like HEVC and AV1 provide better compression and broader hardware support on current devices.
VLC, PotPlayer, and MPC-HC play XVID without additional codec packs. Most standalone DVD/media players with DivX support also decode XVID natively.
They share MPEG-4 Part 2 roots, but XVID is the open-source counterpart to the proprietary DivX codec. Convertio handles both seamlessly.
Choosing a solid codec at matching bitrate preserves quality. Modern codecs can even deliver the same picture at a smaller file size.
Everyday conversions are free. Premium plans provide larger upload limits and priority encoding for frequent or bulk conversions.
