Frequently Asked Questions
SLN is Asterisk PBX's native signed linear format. Required for on-hold music, IVR prompts, and voicemail greetings in Asterisk systems.
Asterisk-based phone systems use SLN for audio prompts, hold music, and greeting messages. It is the simplest format Asterisk can play.
Standard SLN runs at 8 kHz for narrow-band telephony. Asterisk also supports sln16 (16 kHz) and sln48 (48 kHz) for wideband.
At 8 kHz it sounds telephony-grade. For hold music, 16 kHz SLN provides acceptable quality. Full music fidelity requires other formats.
Upload multiple M4A files at once and convert them all to SLN — efficient for preparing a full set of Asterisk audio prompts.
